Scratch-Made Empanadas Coming Soon to Milwaukee Public Market

The Milwaukee Public Market is proud to announce that La Masa Empanada Bar, an Argentinian-inspired restaurant known for its scratch-made food and beverages, will open in the Market in the coming months.

Founded by Brad and Megan Todd, La Masa is the product of decades of industry experience and a passion for quality. The siblings spent years refining the art of creating empanadas, with dough at the center of their craft.

“We operate a true scratch kitchen,” said Brad Todd, co-owner of La Masa. “Every empanada starts with fresh dough and hearty fillings, then it’s oven-baked to order. When guests bite into one, they know it's been made that day, just for them.”

Empanadas feature traditional fillings like Argentine Beef with raisins, olives, and hard-boiled egg, as well as creative options like Grilled Chicken Pesto or vegetarian-friendly, Wisco Corn. Each is served with house-made sauces, including a classic chimichurri. For guests seeking a vegan and gluten-free option, the Doughless Empanada Bowl offers all the flavor without the pastry.

Non-empanada offerings include vegetarian-friendly items such as It’s the Stubby’s Black Bean Burger—a hearty, homemade creation that originated at Milwaukee favorite Stubby’s Gastropub—along with fresh salads, jicama slaw, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Dessert empanadas include indulgent fillings such as Banana Nutella and homemade Dulce de Leche. Guests can also enjoy take-and-bake empanadas and house-made sangria, available for retail purchase.

“Our goal has always been to showcase the very best Milwaukee has to offer,” said Paul Schwartz, Executive Director of the Milwaukee Public Market and Business Improvement District #2. “When we began the search for our next vendor, we started by asking what the community wanted to see. La Masa has earned a reputation for outstanding food, a warm and hospitable guest experience, and a menu that appeals to a wide range of palates and dietary preferences. They deliver exactly the kind of experience and offerings our customers are asking for, which makes them a natural fit for the Market."

“In Argentinian cities, empanadas can be found on nearly every corner,” adds Megan Todd, co-owner of La Masa. “That’s exactly why we’re so excited to join the Milwaukee Public Market. The Market has that same energy, where people can grab a quality La Masa handheld to enjoy on the go or while exploring the Third Ward with family and friends."

La Masa will be located near the Market’s main stairwell, alongside vendors Thief Wine and Freese’s Candy Shoppe. This will be the restaurant’s second location, joining its original Brady Street storefront.
