This installation is part of the Milwaukee Public Market’s Holiday Window Display, a collaborative project with the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) that transforms St. Paul Avenue into a festive public art experience. Until January 31, ten large-scale, student-designed window installations light up the block between Broadway and Water Street, each offering a unique reflection on winter, creativity, and community.
About the Art: Paper Hugs captures the charm of handwritten letters exchanged during the holiday season. The design shows scenes of loved ones sending and receiving mail—a nostalgic reminder of how personal messages can bridge distance, mend relationships, and express heartfelt emotion.
Schwind drew inspiration from childhood memories of receiving packages and handwritten cards from family and friends. For her, those letters represented love and closeness across miles. The piece celebrates the tangible warmth of written correspondence and how it connects us in ways digital communication cannot.
About the Artist: Emilie Schwind, originally from the northern suburbs of Chicago, is a senior at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design studying Communication Design. Her style embraces vibrant colors and youthful energy, aiming to spark joy through her work. Schwind often draws inspiration from nostalgia and nature, channeling those experiences into playful, expressive designs.

Free Parking
Parking is available in the Market's main lot just off of Water Street. Make sure to bring your parking ticket to the class for validation.
Cancellation
Reservations are non-refundable, however you may send someone else to take your place. If we cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment, a full refund will be made.

What’s a Rich Text element?
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
Static and dynamic content editing
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
How to customize formatting for each rich text
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
