Q: What is going on with the parking lot/construction?
A: As part of the I-794 Lake Freeway / Hoan Bridge project, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will begin demolition of the I-794 East Bridge from the Milwaukee River to the Lake Interchange. The work involves removing the existing bridge above the Market Parking Lot, replacing it with a new structure, concrete repaving and surface work.
These infrastructure improvements are a necessity, as the I794 Freeway above the Market Lot was constructed in the 1960s and is in need of improvements.
Q: Will the Market be open during construction?
A: Yes we will! Barring any unforeseen situation that would call for us to close, the Market will remain open during regular hours throughout the entire 2 year project.
GENERAL MARKET HOURS
M-F: 10am to 8pm
Sat: 8am to 7pm
Sun: 10am to 6pm
EARLY HOURS: Cedarburg Coffee, C. Adams Bakery.
Nehring's Family Market & Margarita Paradise at 8am.
LATE HOURS: Thief Wine - Thurs, Fri and Sat open til 9pm
Q: Is the Market Parking Lot CLOSED for 2 years?!
A: Not at all! For a period of 3-4 weeks, the Market Parking Lot will be closed in January while construction crews begin the initial phase of the project. In early February, our parking lot will be reconfigured and we will have access to the north half of the lot. All market employees and monthly parkers will be moved to the remote lot, thus opening up just as many daily spaces as we had before the project began.
Q: Where’s the REMOTE PARKING LOT?
A: To accommodate our employees and monthly parkers (both present & future), we have access to a Remote Parking Lot a few blocks west at the corner of 2nd Street & Clybourn Ave. The lot entrance is off of 2nd Street, just south of Clybourn Ave. The lot can accommodate ANY displaced monthly parkers throughout the Third Ward and Downtown area.
Through a partnership with Historic Third Ward Association, we will have access to the Third Ward Bus Company, which will have FREE shuttles running from the remote lot to several places throughout the Third Ward.
Monday thru Friday, the shuttle runs every 15 minutes from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., and is available to those who call for off-hour pick up until 10 p.m.
Q: How can I stay connected and informed?
A: We’ve set up a webpage with information about the project, parking and shuttle route – MarketParkingProject.com . We encourage everyone to follow us on Facebook & Twitter to get the latest and most up to date information, special offers, etc. Further information about the project can be found at http://projects.511wi.gov/web/hoan-bridge-project
